Artist Statement

“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
    and have their being.”

Revelations 4:11

Through her business, Linda j Kane ART, currently works in jewelry design, mixed media painting and collage; original greeting cards and creative visual journaling.

Linda has worked and studied in several mediums.  Her work is dynamic in her efforts to creatively express an authentic voice in order to speak to her audience about the time and place of her life; the important relationships in life and the love, beauty and truth she wishes to convey.

“Kane is also an artist who not only has messages that are conveyed through her art, but one who believes in the power of art and the importance of creativity being part of the human experience.”

[Krista Tacey-Cater, Houghton Lake Resorter, Seasons-Summer 2024 p. 25.]

Linda has cultivated several styles of jewelry art, which are often embellished by the unique patterns and rhythms she develops. Beading is a staple. She works with hand-painted and embellished paper called Whimzies.

A more rustic style called Digs & Diadems, is where she combines leather, feathers, gems, wire and paper by wrapping, stitching, embellishing, layering and riveting.

The newest direction of her jewelry-making includes integrating opals from around the world into her works.

JEWELRY DESIGNING One of her strengths is creating patterns and rhythms in Jewelry Design. She has been cultivating several lines, BY DEVINE DESIGN, beading being the primary one. It is wearable art. She works with hand painted paper to create pieces called WHIMZIES. Most recently, she is expressing a more rustic style, called DIGS & DIADEMS. She combines leather, feathers, gems, wire and paper by wrapping, stitching, embellishing, layering and riveting. The newest direction of jewelry making includes opals. Her family is participating in the opal jewelry making as it entails bench work, wire wrapping, and designing. Look for the HALF MOON logo. 2D ART Her two dimensional art, or wall art, is primarily Mixed Media, collage and painting. She expresses thoughts and feelings with freedom. She creates small pieces for greeting cards. Inspirations are drawn from the love of etchings, and nature. The focus in the work has been on Up North Michigan themes. Look for her feather art, and more abstract pieces in the near future
Linda Joyce was born in Webster, Massachusetts on Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggcharbunagungamaugg, her happy place throughout her life. She was born into a creative family, the most notable, great uncle Warren Wheelock, 1880-1960, Sculptor, Painter, Abstractionist, Writer, and Teacher. Uncle Warren's artwork became the overarching influence in her creative life. Her family exposed her to wonderful art and visited many famous Art Museums in New York City, NY. His artistic accomplishments set the bar very high, however, she pursued a life of art expression and integrated creative activities throughout her career as teacher, social worker and therapist. Jewelry Designing, Mixed Media Collage, and creative Visual Journaling are the art forms currently expressed.
